On Easter and Why We Need Each Other

Reading over the Easter story these past few weeks, I was struck by a reoccurring theme of community.
Jesus ate with his friends during the Last Supper.
People followed Jesus where he would be crucified after He had been accused; another carried the cross when it got too heavy.
A man came to take Jesus' body after He had died, to prepare it and burry it properly.
Jesus' mother and friend came to weep at his tomb, to grieve their loved one, only to find that He had risen.
There are many supporting characters in this story. Even Jesus did not do it alone and I think it is important to point this out.
We are meant to journey through this life together, to eat, to help, to grieve, to celebrate with one another.
We do not live in isolation, but in community, in this new life.
Over the Easter Vacation my In-Laws visited us. While my Mother-in-Law and I were talking one day she said something that stuck with me.
She stressed the importance of having a community of friends in your life, in the here and now, wherever you currently are. They may not be your best friend, one whom you share an inside joke with. They may not be the ones you can tag in a throw back Thursday photo, but they are the ones who know you currently, where you are, and can physically partake in this life with you at this moment; to eat with, to offer help, to grieve with, to celebrate with.
Because we have a responsibility with this life He gave. A responsibility that asks us to walk together hand in hand.
He is risen. He is risen indeed.
Happy Easter.
