After an incredible vacation reconnecting with the man and allowing
my body to rest, I found myself quickly jumping right back into the
frenzy.
The whirlwind of tasks to complete, emails to
send, lunches to pack, laundry to fold. I focused in on the messy floors
and the dog hair covered couch covers. How soon had I forgotten about
the rest my soul had just experienced.
How easy is it for us to forget those life giving experiences, whether big or small.
A
little hand reaching for yours, tiny arms wrapped around your leg. The
warmth of a fresh cup of coffee in your hand on a rainy fall day.
Now
I sit, alone with my coffee and some time to write. Time to listen to
the stillness of our house, the typing of my fingers. Time to reconnect,
to feed my soul. I need to be reminded of these moments more often, to
slow down, to breathe. In and out.
I read this post over at Chatting at the Sky a while back about the breath prayer. A few words you say as you breath in and a few as you breath out.
The author, Ruth Haley Barton, writes:
"The breath prayer . . . does not come primarily from the mind, which is
where most of our words come from; the breath prayer arises from the
depths of our desire and need. It is powerful because it is an
expression of our heart’s deepest yearning coupled with the name for God
that is most meaningful and intimate for us at this time.”
Mine goes like this I am loved, they are loved.
It
is my daily reminder for those times of frenzy, when my heart begins to
shake. Stop, breathe. I am loved and those I hold close, those little
ones I so often worry over, they are loved.
And if
you're like me, music is another constant that feeds my soul. Here is
something I've been enjoying with that coffee and rain.
